Windows 2000 User Notes
Our 1.50 version of iPassConnect includes an
automatic upgrade for all Windows users (95, 98, NT, 2000). Each of your
end users will see a dialog box which asks if the user wants to upgrade to
v1.50. After checking "YES" and getting a download, users will
automatically be using iPC 1.50 on their next dial.
Because NT and 2000 work slightly differently
from other Windows platforms, end users will have a slightly different
experience. You may get an occasional question on either of the following:
-
NT/2000 users will see v1.50 on the
SECOND launch of the dialer following download of the upgrade. Steps to
verify this are below, should you want to walk an NT/2000 user through the exact
sequence of download and upgrade.
-
If an NT/2000 user disconnects or
CANCELS the download part-way through its completion, the upgrade may not
succeed. Partially downloaded file fragments can complicate the NT/2000
upgrade process. Because of this, end users should be encouraged to let
the download complete or to postpone it for in-office upgrade. If the user
does CANCEL during download, a full re-install of the 1.50 dialer may be
required.
NT/2000 users will experience their iPassConnect
automatic upgrade this way:
-
Dial into the iPassConnect network normally
-
A dialog box will appear asking the user if s/he
would like a new version of iPassConnect
-
User should select Yes. Download will occur. (Estimated time 2+ minutes at 28.8k)
-
Quit iPassConnect when done with the current
session.
-
Re-launch iPassConnect and dial into any number.
(Internet access is available, but no upgrade to v1.50 has yet taken place.)
-
Quit & restart iPassConnect again.
-
User should wait 10 seconds for the update to
occur. (1.50 is now installed.)
-
Can verify dialer has upgraded to version 1.50 by
looking under the Help menu - About iPassConnect.
